Radmind
Radmind is an open source Unix-based tool for managing the file systems of workstations. A Radmind server contains snapshots of what the file structures for client workstations should contain and can adjust those workstations if they differ. This makes Radmind a great tool for ensuring that workstations are configured appropriately, both in terms of deploying updates and of maintaining a set configuration after deployment. Because it monitors the file systems on remote workstations, Radmind acts as a tripwire security system and can be used to alert you to changes whether or not you choose to reset workstations to their previous configurations. Although it is a Unix tool and is command-line driven, Radmind also offers a GUI setup assistant for Mac OS X users that is very similar to the Mac OS X Server Setup Assistant. Although Radmind is good for maintaining system configurations on workstations and for deploying updates and new applications, it works best when paired with another option for deploying new workstations or when doing complete system restores.
