GUI Front Ends for Local Disk Restores
In its pre-OS X iteration, Apple Software Restore was a graphical application with an easy-to-use interface. Although Apple does not provide a graphic interface for the Mac OS X version, there are freeware front ends available that make using ASR a little bit more user-friendly. This can be helpful for technicians new to command-line tools or if you need to work with non-IT staff during rollouts. Carbon Copy Cloner is the most common such tool for situations in which the source image is stored on a portable hard drive or CD/DVD.
