I Cannot Pivot the Report
The main point of a PivotTable is the ability to pivot the report, but sometimes you cannot drag certain fields for pivoting (because of the following causes):
- If the PivotTable is based on OLAP data, certain fields (identified by a small page icon in the Field List) can be used only as Page fields and cannot be dragged to the data area. Other fields (identified by an icon with 0s and 1s) can be used only as data fields and cannot be dragged to the Page, Row, or Column areas.
- The workbook might contain a VBA macro that disables field dragging. In this case, the mouse pointer displays a Cancel symbol when you try to drag a field.
- For Page fields, if the options are set to Query For External Data Only When Each Item Is Selected, you cannot drag the field to the Row or Column areas. You can remove this restriction by double-clicking the field, selecting Advanced, and clearing the Disable Pivoting Of This Field option.
- If worksheet protection is turned on, and you did not select the Use PivotTable Reports option when the protection was enabled, you will not be permitted to change the report layout.
