Where Do You Go from Here?
The powerline-based control system of X10 represents an easy and extensible way to control devices in your home simply by using your computer and some remote controls. This article has just scratched the surface of possibilities of what the X10 protocol can do. You can use X10 to control the temperature of your hot tub or control X10 devices via the phone. You can create X10 macros so a single x10 command triggers a sequence of prerecorded x10 commands.
For more practical tips on using X10, see my article "Do More as a Couch Potato Using mControl, Windows Media Center, and X10 Devices," in which I show how to control X10 devices via a Windows Media Center plug-in called mControl.
