After all, that little box has stood by your side for the last few years - and this is how you reward it? Instead of just dumping your old PC in the trash, where it will end up rotting in a landfill, why not give it the respect it's due and donate it to some people who care? Free Geek Penn will take your unwanted computer, clear it of sensitive data, and give it a new life as part of a recycled product or as a newly refurbished computer that someone else can grow to love.

Are You Drowning in Drives?

After working with computers for many years, I still don't like to throw anything away. First, I'm paranoid about what data I might toss into the trash. Second, the little voice in the back of my head keeps asking me, "What if you need that part tomorrow?" Third, I know the impact that throwing away hazardous waste can have on the environment. Needless to say, I was happily surprised to find Free Geek Penn right around the corner from my home and work in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. Not only does this volunteer-run organization take my old computers and monitors, but they also fix and resell dropped-off computers for a major discount, which means that I don't have to keep obscure parts on hand at my office.

I started to think about the uniqueness of this organization, and how so many people are oblivious to what happens to a computer when it's tossed in the trash or traded in to Dell. For orders and purchases placed through our online store on this site, we collect order details, name, institution name and address (if applicable), email address, phone number, shipping and billing addresses, credit/debit card information, shipping options and any instructions. Other Collection and Use of Information


Application and System Logs

Pearson automatically collects log data to help ensure the delivery, availability and security of this site. Log data may include technical information about how a user or visitor connected to this site, such as browser type, type of computer/device, operating system, internet service provider and IP address. We use this information for support purposes and to monitor the health of the site, identify problems, improve service, detect unauthorized access and fraudulent activity, prevent and respond to security incidents and appropriately scale computing resources.

Web Analytics

Pearson may use third party web trend analytical services, including Google Analytics, to collect visitor information, such as IP addresses, browser types, referring pages, pages visited and time spent on a particular site. While these analytical services collect and report information on an anonymous basis, they may use cookies to gather web trend information. The information gathered may enable Pearson (but not the third party web trend services) to link information with application and system log data.
