Saving the XML Document
You save the XML document the same way you save any other Word document, but you also have the option to save as XML data only for transfer to other applications. Follow these steps to save the document:
- Choose File, Save As and choose XML Document from the Save as Type drop-down list (see Figure 11).
- Select check boxes, if appropriate, and click Save.
Figure 11 Save As options for XML include check boxes.
Unless you've selected the Allow Saving as XML Even If Not Valid option (see Figure 12), Word won't let you save your document if it violates the conditions set up in the schema. Instead, you'll get a validation error that includes an error icon in the XML structure pane (hop back to Figure 9 if you want to see it again). Allowing your cursor to hover over the icon will provide you with a more specific error message to help you correct the problem.
