Security Issues
When you manage user accounts, security is always an issue. Security is especially important with roaming profiles because they contain personal information, security certificates, and the user's documents. Some simple techniques can help to protect this confidential information:
- Limit access to the shared folders used for roaming profiles to the specific users who need that access.
- Create a security group for the users whose profiles are in the shared folder, and give access to only those users.
- Hide the shared folder by putting a dollar sign ($) after the share name. This trick keeps the folder from showing up in My Network Places on the users' computers, therefore hiding it from casual browsers.
- Limit permissions to just those that users really need.
