What Is the Next Step?
A lot of buzz already is circulating about the new Xbox coming out in '05. What will this new machine do? Well, for one thing, there will not be a hard drive. That means you will not be able to burn your CDs or copy your images quite so easily. Will there be an add-on hard drive? I am sure there will be. The bigger question is, will you buy the new Xbox when it ships? Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony have all conceded that the life of the game system is much longer than it was thought to be. Five years ago, most companies would tell you that you would change your system every three years. Today many users are likely to keep their systems for up to 10 years. This is largely because the systems themselves are already very powerful.
Anyway, that is all more than a year away. In the meantime, burn your CDs, karaoke your heart out, copy family photos, and watch your DVDsall from the same system. Compared to the old Commodore 64, this Xbox system really does it all.
