3.6 Supporting Multi-zone Disks
In this chapter, we discussed techniques to support multiple disk platform SM servers with single zone disks. In reality, modern disk drives consist of multiple zones as illustrated in Section 2.5. Assuming logical single zone disks created using techniques in Section 2.5 and Section 5.3, we can straightforwardly apply techniques in this chapter to multiple multi-zone disk platform. A homogeneous collection of multi-zone disks is a special case of a collection of heterogeneous multi-zone disks in Section 5.3 when the number of disk types is one. Thus, the details can be found in section 5.3.
