HP x5400 Media Center Extender
As part of HP's various Windows Media Center product releases, the company has announced an HP-branded media center extender adapter (see the PC Magazine review, if you're interested) that allows users to stream a variety of digital media content and access online services via a networked MCE machine (MSRP $299).
NOTE
All media center extenders do the same thing, no matter which company makes them. The great thing about an extender is that it's an economical way to enjoy content from your Media Center PC located in another room, while using basically the same MCE interface and remote that's already familiar.
HP states that you use their extender (see Figure 5) to do the following:
Watch a movie in one room while another user listens to the music collection using the same Media Center PC in another room. Up to five different media center extenders can run at the same time from one Media Center PC.
Navigate and enjoy digital music, photos, recorded TV, and videos with the same Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 interface and one remote control. The included setup wizard makes startup quick and easy.
Use a wired or wireless 802.11a/g connection to connect to an existing TV or monitor and home stereo.
