What's Next?
It's always hard to guess where Apple will go next. The new iMacs are out, with a deliberate iPod look (but not much else in common with the compact iPod), and I thought there would be all sorts of synchronizing going on between the mini iPod and the bigger iMac. But I'm seeing very little of that at the moment.
Arguably, since the iPod now offers a color screen so you can store images as well as basic data, the next big thing for the iPod might be a wireless keyboard. Why not make the iPod a smart hard drive, with an operating system for which developers can write applications? If you can do all of those things and store more info on an iPod than a PDA, why keep both products? As long as the battery can take it, the future of the iPod looks to be very big. Maybe the Newton will come back with a chic new slimmed-down look?
