Conclusion
Although PCI-Express is now arriving in motherboards and systems, don't throw out your PCI-based systems just yet. It will take a year or so from now (mid-2005 or later) to bring a broad range of PCI-Express x1-compatible products to market. For now, PCI-Express is primarily a replacement for AGP, although some chipsets and motherboard designs support both PCI-Express x16 and AGP 8x slots. However, over time, look for a broad range of PCI-Express x1 and x4 products as well.
