Conclusion
This article presented the underlying principles behind the proposed availability modeling methodology, which combines the techniques of black-box measurement, white-box analysis and availability budgeting. This methodology is being applied to a few specific Sun Cluster software stacks. A behavioral analysis of the overall availability of the system using the RAScad tool, together with a differential analysis of the dependence of system availability on the various parameters, revealed a prioritized list of these parameters. This list can be used to focus design efforts, as well as to generate best practices that should be deployed in any Sun Cluster software environment. This article presented a set of such best practices.
