Summary
The Compact Framework is a great addition to VS .NET 2003 and should bring the benefits of managed code and the productivity of VS .NET to smart device applications. The good news is that desktop Framework developers will feel right at home in the development environment, although they will have to adjust to the subset nature of the Compact Framework. Developers already familiar with mobile application development using the eMbedded Visual Tools, such as eMbedded Visual Basic (eVB), will feel fairly comfortable with the VB syntax used in SDP. However, the object-oriented nature of the Compact Framework means that developers need to have a firm grounding in OO concepts to maximize their productivity.
