Web Services Part 7: The J2EE Platform
Introduction
As you may recall from my earlier articles, web services are a set of emerging technology standards (SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, and others) designed to help promote interoperability between systems, including both legacy applications and ones that have yet to be developed. Regardless of the language in which the legacy system is written or the environment in which it executes, we still need to decide on an integration strategy and determine which web services platform(s) to use for performing integration. This article discusses the J2EE platform, and future articles will discuss APIs specifically designed for working with web services, and the vendors that support the J2EE platform (including IBM, BEA Systems, Iona, Apache, and others).
