CompTIA Certifications
A+
Author and title: Charles A. Brooks, A+ Certification Training Guide (3rd Edition). Que, 2001.
ISBN: 0-7357-1088-0
Test number:
- Core hardware: 220-221
OS technologies: 220-222
Vendor's certification site: http://www.comptia.org/certification/aplus/index.htm
Prometric/Vue information on the exam: http://www.2test.com/ or http://www.vue.com/.
Authorized courseware: http://caqc.comptia.org/apl.asp
Comments: I have also used the ElementK Press courseware when I teach the course in an instructor-led forum. The ElementK Press material is excellent, but it is expensive for someone looking to save money by doing self-study. For detailed information on the ElementK Press material, go to http://www.elementkcourseware.com/.
Network+
Author and title: David Groth, Network+ Study Guide (3rd Edition). Sybex, 2001.
ISBN: 0-7821-4014-9
Test number: N10-002
Vendor's certification site: http://www.comptia.org/certification/networkplus/index.htm
Prometric/Vue information on the exam: http://www.2test.com/ or http://www.vue.com/.
Comments: Novell and other vendors are coming out with their own version of the Network+ courseware. This certification will be the entry-level staple for all network OS certifications in the next few years.
Server+
Author and title: Elton Jernigan, Server+ Certification Training Guide. Que, 2001.
ISBN: 0-7357-1087-2
Test number: SK0-001
Vendor's certification site: http://www.comptia.org/certification/serverplus/index.htm
Prometric/Vue information on the exam: http://www.2test.com/ or http://www.vue.com/.
Comments: I just recently tackled the Server+ exam using just this book and the corresponding practice test from MeasureUp. I spent less than a week reading quickly through the book and taking the practice test one time. I passed the Server+ exam with no difficulty using no other tools.
