Part 2 Analysis
Chris seems to be overwhelmed with the Web project he's undertaken. It seems like the developers he's just interviewed might be able to help him out because they appear to know what they're doing. Chris made some good moves and wise decisions in this installment, including talking around the discussion of a budget. It was much smarter to wait and see what kind of number they came back to him with.
The Pufus folks are wise to combine marketing with site development from the very start. But Chris may be too uptight about his budget and time constraints to be asking the right questions. He should consciously be aware that he can't compromise quality for the sake of speed.
There were also clear signs of dangerous areas that Chris and Erica should be aware of:
There probably weren't enough questions asked about Pufus' technical capabilities.
Chris seems content with the Pufus developers, and although they put on a good dog-and-pony show, he and Erica should really interview at least two more agencies so that they have something to compare with Pufus.
Erica's relationship to Jackie could be questionable. She hadn't told Chris that Jackie was her sister-in-law. That makes her very biased toward Pufus because Erica herself could benefit personally if Pufus gets the account.
Pufus made a wise decision as a potential vendor to stop the meeting instead of continuing with the conversation. Considering how difficult this project could be (the Shelbus databases are not in great shape), it was a smart move for the developers to go back to their offices and take the time to put together a list of questions to send to Chris.
