Printer Support
Printers are always items that can be tweaked. As you will see in this section, Microsoft has found a way to do just that.
Command-Line Support for Printers
In previous versions of Windows, all administration of printers was done either through the print queue or through a Web interface. Now, administrators can use command-line utilities to manage printers and print queues. This gives the ability for administrators to develop scripts and batch files to manage their resources more efficiently.
More Printers
More than 300 new printer drivers have been added to the .NET Server family.
Easier Install of Printers On a Cluster
During the install of a printer on a cluster, the drivers will automatically be installed on all nodes of the cluster. This is different from the Windows 2000 cluster, in which the driver had to be installed on each node of the cluster.
Internet Services
Microsoft has been bombarded with issues related to Internet Information Services. This version fixes all issues related to security and also adds some new features.
Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0
IIS is no longer installed by default. IIS 6.0 has been optimized to run Web-based applications more efficiently. An administrator can isolate applications into a self-contained process. This helps prevent Web applications from disrupting other Web services on the server. IIS 6.0 also includes health-monitoring capabilities to prevent failures and to help increase the preventative measures to protect the Web server. IIS 6.0 has also been turned to better support multiprocessor servers that will increase throughput and scalability of the Web server.
