Summary
Hopefully, this article has explored the primary sorts of benefits that distributed computing can provide in almost any enterprise. NFS and OpenAFS are only the tip of the distributed computing environment for Linuxthey are the best-known and most widely used instances of a growing number of powerful distributed filesystems that are available for Linux. I'll highlight some of these in the next article in this series, "Linux Filesystem Futures," as well as provide an overview of some other interesting developments that are on the Linux filesystem horizon.
