Start the Server
After MSDE is installed and you have applied the latest service pack, you can start the server process. Log on as Administrator. You should see a new server icon in the task bar. As shown in Figure 3, the icon is the second one from the left. The white circle containing a little red box means the server is not running.

Double-click this icon to open the SQL Service Manager shown in Figure 4.

Click the Start/Continue button. After the service starts, make sure the Auto-start box at the bottom is checked, and close the Service Manager. The taskbar icon should now look like the one in Figure 5.

You probably shouldn't stay logged on to the Administrator account, so log off, and log back in as yourself. Now you're ready to give the new server a work out.
