Conclusion
As mentioned earlier, Oracle9i Lite is anything but a lightweight product! Instead, it' a powerful relational database product designed for single-user use on a wide variety of mobile computing platforms. Unlike the Sybase SQL Anywhere and PointBase database products, Oracle9i Lite assumes the use of Oracle databases on the back end, allowing it to take advantage of Oracle-specific features (such as Advanced Queuing and 9i AS) while effectively shutting out developers whose organizations use other databases. Other issues that may arise when evaluating this product include the footprint of the product on the mobile device (extremely large when using Web-To-Go on Win32 laptops) or wireless bandwidth issues that may arise during synchronization (HTTP synchronization is not as bandwidth-efficient as raw TCP/IP or UDP/IP synchronization). That being said, however, if you work in an Oracle "shop," have some Java expertise, and are looking for a single product to handle your mobile database and application deployment needs, Oracle9i Lite is a powerful product that should meet any large-scale, enterprise-level application development requirements.
