Run AVG AntiVirus
Now that you’ve installed and launched the AVG AntiVirus app, you see the AVG AntiVirus Free for Tablets opening screen. Close the opening screen by tapping the Continue button at the bottom of the screen.
Next, you see an upgrade screen that reminds you about upgrading to the AVG AntiVirus Security Pro version, but you can continue to use the free version by tapping the No Thanks button within the window.
Now you see the AVG AntiVirus home screen shown in Figure 3. You can scan your Tab 4 for the first time by tapping the Scan Now button at the bottom of the screen.
Figure 3. The Protection tile at the top of the screen reminds you to scan your system now to detect any threats to your Tab 4.
After you begin the scan, a message appears at the bottom of the screen saying that the initial scan will likely take a few minutes and the app will inform you when the scan is complete. You can view the progress of the scan at the bottom of the screen.
Once the app completes the scan, the number of threats the app found appears at the bottom of the screen as shown in Figure 4. Learn about the issue(s) and fix them by tapping the Fix Issues button.
Figure 4. The Fix Issues button appears at the bottom of the AVG AntiVirus home screen.
In this case, AVG AntiVirus found an unsecured setting, which means the setting should be turned off if I’m not using it. However, as I’m using USB debugging on my Tab 4, I’ll ignore it by tapping Ignore within the window shown in Figure 5. Note that an ad appears at the bottom of the screen, which is what you have to put up with for using the free version. If you want to remove the ads, you have to upgrade to AVG AntiVirus Security Pro, which you’ll learn more about later in this article.
Figure 5. The Scan Results screen shows you how many apps have been scanned and are safe for use.
After you tap Ignore, the In the Review window appears on the screen. Tap the Rate 5 Stars if you want to rate the AVG AntiVirus Free for Tablets app with 5 stars in the Google Play Store. You can turn off this window by tapping No Thanks in the window. If you want to use the app some more and have a chance to rate the app later, tap Maybe Later in the window.
Now the Scan Results screen shows you that your apps are safe to use and that all threats caused by unsafe settings have been handled which, in this example, was handled by me. You can view more scan information and change scan settings by tapping the Menu icon in the upper right corner of the screen as shown in Figure 6.
Figure 6. The menu appears just below the Menu icon after you tap the icon in the menu bar.
Tap one of the following three options in the drop down menu:
- Log: View a detailed log of the most recent scan
- Re-Scan: Perform another scan of your Tab 4.
- Clear Ignore List: Clear the list of apps and/or settings you want AVG AntiVirus to ignore. The next time you scan your Tab 4 again, AVG AntiVirus will alert you to problems with those apps and/or settings you previously ignored if AVG AntiVirus finds any.
If you decide you don’t want to select any of the options in the menu, tap the Back touch button. Return to the app home screen by tapping Scan Results at the left side of the menu bar that you saw in Figure 6.
