In addition to working with other certification providers, vendor-independent bodies would do well to learn from the lessons of the IT industry. The companies that succeed have either been around from the beginning or have been creative in the production and marketing of a product or idea. The true success stories will come from those companies that find a gap in the market and fill it. Those providers that develop certifications pitched almost directly against existing vendor-specific programs will be brave indeed. Taking on the big boys at their own game is a major undertaking, and one likely to end in tears.
