Tape Backup System
A network server needs a tape backup system to allow the data stored on the network server to be copied to another device for safe keeping and data recovery. A RAID disk subsystem provides reliability for the data, but it does nothing to help recover a file that was "accidentally deleted" by a user. At least two copies of the backup tapes should be maintained, and one of them should be maintained off-site. A fire in the server room is a true disaster if the only backup tapes were stored in the server room. When selecting a tape drive technology (and there are many different technologies available), pick one that has the capacity to back up the entire contents of the disk subsystem of the network server in a reasonable amount of time.
