Dual Certification
While it is true that adding certifications within a single product line can be advantageous, it is probably best to not become too attached to a single vendor or system. Once you have attained either your CNE or your MCSE, you may want to consider a dual certification. Microsoft and Novell offer programs that allow holders of each other's certifications to certify on their systems also. This can be especially useful since most networks are not homogenous, but are actually a conglomeration of various networking systems. For example, many companies run Novell NetWare for their file and print needs but use Microsoft's Windows NT as application servers. Both companies make products that integrate the other's operating system into their own networks. In fact, Novell includes as part of its certification a course entitled "Integrating NetWare and Windows NT." You will want to check with each company to find out more about requirements for dual certification.
