Change ADM Device Settings
You can set up ADM settings for your Tab 4 by tapping the name of the device in the list you saw in Figure 8. If you’re uncertain about the name of your device, you’ll see This Device below the device name in the list.
After you select your device, you see your device name in the window, and at the bottom of the window you see two buttons. The Ring button on the left enables you to cause your Tab 4 to ring for 5 minutes. On the right, tap the Setup Lock & Erase button. The Security screen appears, as shown in Figure 9.
Figure 9. The Security menu bar appears at the top of the screen, and the Menu icon appears at the right side of the menu bar.
Two ADM security options appear in the Android Device Manager section that appears at the top of the settings list. The check box to the right of the Remotely Locate This Device option is checked by default, which means ADM will show the Tab 4 on your list of devices. You can hide the Tab 4 from the list by tapping the check box to clear it.
If you want to lock and erase your Tab 4 remotely, tap the Allow Remote Lock and Erase check box. In the Activate Device Administrator? window that appears on the screen, tap Activate. Now you can lock and/or erase the Tab 4 from another Android device running ADM.
If you need to get help and want to give feedback about ADM, tap the Menu icon on the menu bar you saw in Figure 9 and then tap Help & Feedback on the menu. Return to the ADM screen by tapping the Back touch button. Note that after a minute or two of inactivity, ADM will require you to enter your password again, so you may need to type your Google account password to gain access to ADM.
The next time you view your Tab 4 in ADM, you’ll see the Lock and Erase buttons disabled in the device window. You can change these settings by opening the Google Settings app and then tapping Security as you learned about earlier in this article.
You can also access more device settings in the Device Manager screen by tapping the Menu icon at the right side of the menu bar, as shown in Figure 10. Then you can tap one of the following options in the menu, from top to bottom:
- Refresh: Refreshes the location of the device you’re tracking on the map. Because the map doesn’t update your device location automatically, it’s a good idea to refresh the map from time to time if your device is lost.
- Rename Device: Renames the device you’re tracking. After you tap Rename Device on the menu, type the new name in the Rename This Device? window. After you type the name, tap Rename in the window. After a second or two, the device window displays your new name.
- Help & Feedback: Get quick help and send feedback about ADM to Google.

Now that you’re up to speed on how to change Google app and account settings as well as how to use the Android Device Manager, you can change your Google settings as necessary and protect your Tab 4 in case your device is ever lost or stolen.
