Set Rule Filters to Categorize Messages
If you want the Email app to put messages you’re looking for into a separate folder so you can find them easily, you can create rule filters based on message subject term(s) and the message sender. Start by tapping the Menu icon on the blue menu bar you saw in Figures 4 and 5. In the menu, tap Settings. In the Settings screen that appears in Figure 7, tap General Settings in the settings list on the left side of the screen (if it’s not already selected). Then tap Rules for Filtering in the General Settings list on the right side of the screen.
Figure 7 The Rules for Filtering option appears at the bottom of the General Settings list.
On the Rules for Filtering page, tap the Add icon (it looks like a plus (+) sign) at the right side of the blue menu bar that appears at the top of the screen. Within the Rules for Filtering window that appears in Figure 8, the default filter name is highlighted in the Filter Name field, so you can type a new name if you want. Next, tap either the Subject Includes field to type one or more words in the email message subject for the filter or tap the From field to select a sender.
Figure 8 After you enter subject words, a sender name in the From field, or both, the Done option appears at the right side of the blue menu bar within the Rules for Filtering window.
As you type the recipient name in the From field, you see a list of potential matches appear below the box. You can also select a name from the contact list by typing the Contact button to the right of the From field. When you finish entering your criteria, tap Done in the window menu bar, as you saw in Figure 8.
After you tap Done, the new filter name appears in the Rules for Filtering page. Return to the previous Settings screen by tapping the Back touch button, and then tap the Back button again to return to the Email app Home screen. In the folders list on the left side of the screen, tap Filters to view all your filter names in the list. Tap the folder name to view all messages from the sender and/or that has subject word(s) that meet the folder criteria on the right side of the screen.
Figure 9 The New Filter folder name appears highlighted in the folders list underneath the Filters entry.
Note that the Email app doesn’t move messages that meet your filter criteria from the inbox to your filter folder. You can still find the messages in your Inbox folder.
