Mark and View Favorites
If you have one or more contacts with whom you connect often, you don’t have to put them into a group. Instead, you can mark one or more contacts as a favorite and access them in the Favorites list. You can mark a contact as a favorite in one of two ways.
First, you can open a contact record and then tap the gray star icon that appears to the right of the username, as shown in Figure 8.
Figure 8 After you tap the star icon, it changes from gray to gold; a gold star means the contact is a favorite.
You can also add a favorite by tapping the Favorites tab on the blue menu bar that appears at the top of the screen. Within the Favorites tab, tap the Add icon—it looks like a plus sign (+)—at the right side of the blue menu bar. In the Add to Favorites window, as shown in Figure 9, swipe up and down in the window to view your contacts.
Figure 9 The Add to Favorites window appears in the upper-right area of the screen.
You can add all your contacts as favorites by tapping the Select All icon in the window that you saw in Figure 9. If you want to search for a contact, tap the Search box above the list of contacts, and then start typing your terms as you learned to do earlier in this article. After you tap a contact name in the list, a green check mark appears in the check box to the left of the contact photo or placeholder image. When you’ve selected the contact(s) you want to mark as a favorite, tap Done at the right side of the blue menu bar that’s at the top of the window.
The favorite contact appears within your favorites list in the Favorites tab. View the favorite’s contact information in the Contact Details window by tapping on the thumbnail photo or placeholder image. You can remove a favorite by tapping and holding on the thumbnail image and then tapping Remove from Favorites in the pop-up window that appears (see Figure 10).
Figure 10 The menu shows the name of the contact at the top of the window, so you know the name of the contact you’re removing from the Favorites list.
You can also add the favorite to your Home screen by tapping Add Shortcut to Home in the menu. After you add the shortcut, a pop-up window appears near the bottom of the screen that says the shortcut has been added. You can view the favorite on the Home screen, as shown in Figure 11, by pressing the Home button.
Figure 11 The photo or placeholder image for the favorite appears as an icon with the contact name underneath the photo or image.
When you tap the shortcut on the Home screen, a pop-up window appears, so you can get more information about the person and perform certain tasks. For example, in Figure 12 you can view email addresses and write an email to the contact. Close the window by tapping the Back touch button.
Figure 12 Send an email to the contact by tapping the email icon to the right of the email address in the list.
That ends our in-depth tour of the Contacts app. Now that you know how to get more out of using the app, you can organize your contacts to quickly get in touch with your most important people.
