Google Play Newsstand
Google also replaced the Google Play Magazines app with the Google Play Newsstand app to make it easier to read the latest news stories and magazines. Here’s how to read a magazine:
- Tap the Apps icon on the Home screen.
- Tap Play Newsstand in the Apps screen.
- Tap the Play Magazine icon in the upper-left corner of the screen (just below the Status bar).
In the menu bar shown in Figure 11, you can shop for magazines in the Google Play Store by tapping Explore. As with the previous instructions about the Google Play Books app in this article, this quick primer about using the Play Newsstand app presumes that you’ve already downloaded a magazine to read.
Figure 11 The Play Magazines app menu appears on the left side of the screen.
- In the menu (see Figure 11), tap My Library.
In the My Library screen, tap Magazines in the blue menu bar at the top of the screen. Within the Magazines page, tap the cover of the magazine you want to read. The cover of the magazine appears at the top of the screen. Swipe up and down the screen to view thumbnail images of each page, as shown in Figure 12.
Figure 12 Even-numbered pages appear in tiles on the left side of the screen, and odd-numbered pages appear on the right side.
View a larger version of the magazine page on the screen by tapping on a thumbnail image. You can change to a text version of the page by tapping on the page image on the screen.
In the blue menu bar that appears on the top of the screen, you see a slider button at the right side of the bar. Swipe the slider button from right to left and then release your finger. You see the text version of the page on the screen.
