Change Default Apps
If you have two apps on your system that do the same thing, KitKat allows you to set the default app so you'll open it every time. In this example, I'll choose between two launchers. A launcher is the screen interface that you use to interact with the Tab 3. By default, Samsung uses the TouchWiz Home launcher. However, you can download and install other free launchers from the Google Play Store, and in this example I've downloaded the Nova Launcher app.
If you don't have a default launcher selected, each time you move between another screen (such as the Apps screen) and the Home screen, you'll see the Complete Action Using window that asks if you want to complete the action using one launcher or the other.
After you tap the launcher icon in the window, you can complete the action one time by tapping the Just Once button or set the selected launcher as the default by tapping the Always button.
You can also set your default apps within the Settings screen. Start by tapping the Settings icon on the Home screen. Next, swipe down the settings list on the left side of the screen and then tap Default Application in the list (see Figure 7).
Figure 7 The default application category types appear in the Default Applications settings list on the right side of the screen.
Tap Home in the Default Applications settings list. The Home settings list appears on the right side of the screen, as shown in Figure 8, with both the Samsung TouchWiz Home and Nova Launcher apps listed.
Figure 8 Radio buttons appear on the left of each app name.
Select the default launcher app by tapping the radio button to the left of the app you want to use. You can uninstall the Nova Launcher app by tapping the trashcan icon to the right of the Nova Launcher name in the list. The trashcan icon to the right of the TouchWiz Home is gray because you can't delete TouchWiz Home.
