Add the Camera to the Lock Screen
If you'd rather use the Camera app to take a quick photo without having to unlock the system, you can do that by adding the camera to the Lock screen. Note that this option works only if you swipe the screen to unlock the Tab 3. If you use any other unlock method, such as a password, you won't be able to use the Camera app (or any other app) from the Lock screen.
Begin the addition process by tapping the Settings icon on the Home screen. Swipe down the settings list on the left side of the screen and then tap Lock Screen. In the Lock Screen settings list on the right side of the screen (see Figure 2), tap Shortcuts.
Figure 2 The Shortcuts option is within the Swipe Options section.
In the Shortcuts screen, turn shortcuts on by swiping the Off slider button to On in the blue menu bar at the top of the screen. A row of apps that you can access from the Lock screen appears in the middle of the screen. Tap the plus icon at the right end of the row, as shown in Figure 3.
In the Select Application window, tap Camera in the list, as shown in Figure 4. After you tap Camera, the camera icon appears in the Shortcuts screen. Now you can see the Camera icon on the Lock screen by putting the Tab 3 in Sleep mode.
Figure 4 The Camera option appears third from the top in the list.
When you turn the Tab 3 back on, you see a row of icons near the bottom of the screen (see Figure 5). From left to right, the icons are Memo, Internet, Google, Gallery, and Camera. Open the Camera app by tapping and holding on the Camera icon and then swiping in any direction.
Figure 5 The Camera icon appears on the right side of the icon list.
When you finish using the Camera app or any other related app you use with the camera (such as the Gallery app), you don't need to return to the Lock screen and then swipe to view the Home screen. Instead, open the Home screen by pressing the Home button.
