Conclusion
The combination of push applications, WAP/WTAI, and voice technologies allows for the development of some very useful mobile applications. When all these elements are in place and functioning in devices on the market, wireless portals from traditional portal heavyweights such as AOL, Yahoo!, and MSN will surge in popularity. Interest in voice technologies such as VoiceXML appears to be building. WAP offers the handset an application interface to alert/inform the user about interesting information, based on that user's preferences (configured on the portal). WAP 1.2 phones will soon be commonplace, allowing application developers to take advantage of powerful new capabilities such as WTAI.
