New Widgets
You can access the list of widgets by tapping Apps on the Home screen and then tapping Widgets at the top of the screen, as shown in Figure 13. You can add three new widgets in Android 4.2.2 to a Home screen:
- Active Apps Manager: Opens the Task Manager screen, so you can see all active applications, view downloaded apps, and manage memory and storage.
- Picture Frame: Displays one or more of your selected pictures stored on your Tab 2 within an area on the Home screen.
- S Bookmarks: Displays your website bookmark folders. Open the list of bookmarks by tapping the bookmark folder, and then tap on the bookmark tile to open the website in the Browser app.
This section presumes that you have already added these widgets to a Home screen of your choice.

Using the Picture Frame Widget
After you add the Picture Frame widget to the Home screen, the Select From window appears, as shown in Figure 16, so you can select the type of images you want to display within the widget. You can select from images stored on your device, an album file that contains images, or shuffled pictures that you view within the widget as a slideshow. For this article, I’ll tap Images.

In the Gallery window, you see image folders represented as a thumbnail image; this image appears within the folder. Tap the folder with the images you want to add to the Picture Frame app. Select the image(s) to add to the Picture Frame widget by tapping the check box at the upper-right corner of each image tile, as shown in Figure 17. When you finish selecting the images, tap Done.

If more than one image appears in the widget, you see the slideshow of photos. Return to the Home screen that contains the widget by tapping the Back icon on the Notification bar. The picture frame shows the picture (or the slideshow if you have more than one picture) within the widget, as shown in Figure 18.

As you can probably tell, this article introduces you to only these new apps and widgets. You can find more information about apps and widgets in My Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and articles written to support the book on the Que Publishing website; the Tab 3 runs Android 4.2.2 as well. For now, I invite you to continue on to Part 3 of this article series, which talks about the new settings available to you in Android 4.2.2 on your Galaxy Tab 2.
