Switching Users
If other people are using your computer, they’ll want to sign in with their own accounts. Fortunately, it’s relatively easy to sign in and out of different accounts, and switch users.
Change Users
You can change users on your PC without restarting it.
- From the Start screen, click or tap your username and picture in the top-right corner.
Click or tap the next user’s name.
- When prompted, enter the new user’s password.
Press Enter or click or tap the next arrow.
Sign Out of Windows
When you switch users, both accounts remain active; the original user account is just suspended in the background. You can also opt to log completely out of a given account and return to the Windows lock screen.
- From the Start screen, click or tap your username and picture in the top-right corner.
Click or tap Sign Out.
Sign In with Multiple Users
If you have more than one user assigned to Windows, the sign-in process is slightly different when you start up your computer.
Power up your computer.
When the Windows lock screen appears, press any key on your keyboard or gently tap the screen (if you have a touchscreen display) to display the sign-in screen.
If you see a single-person sign-in screen, click or tap the left arrow to display all the users on this PC.
Click or tap your username to display your personal sign-in screen.
- Enter your password as normal.
Press the Enter key or click/tap the right-arrow button to display your personal Start screen.
