Windows has redesigned the desktop experience as you know it with the Windows 8.1 release. The update is not simply a facelift however, there are a number of improvements and feature updates. The updates fall into three primary categories: Programs - all the programs you rely upon for workplace productivity, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for example, all function the way you’re used to. Now you can use a mouse and keyboard and organize your stuff in folders on the desktop. Security - Windows Defender and Windows SmartScreen will now help guard your PC against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software in real time. Windows 8.1 also comes with Family Safety which provides your children with the independence they need to explore independently while keeping tabs on them at the same time. Mouse and Keyboard - You can still use your mouse and keyboard to work on your Windows desktop. Now the tasks you perform with touch, such as using apps from the Windows Store and getting around on your Start screen, may also be completed with your mouse and keyboard.
