Facebook Users Are More Trusting
In 2011, the Pew Research Center found that, when accounting for all other factors—such as age, education level, and race—Facebook users are 43% more likely than other Internet users to say that “most people can be trusted” (see Figure 1.3). That’s actually up from 32% in 2009. Compared with people who don’t use the Internet at all, Facebook users were three times more trusting.25 By the way, who’s not using the Internet at all? People too busy fixing their moonshine stills? “Don’t use that thar Internet. It’ll suck yer soul raht outta yer ahhz!”
