Creating Free Lights
Adding a free spotlight or free directional light to your scene is just like adding a free camera. Free lights are great when you need a lot of light pointing in the same direction, like a row of street lights or lights in an office building.
To create a free spotlight or free directional light:
-
Open a scene file.
-
Click Free Spot on the Lights & Cameras Toolbar.
or
Click Free Directional on the Lights & Cameras Toolbar.
-
Click in the Top viewport to place the light (Figure 12).
Figure 12 Add a free light in the Top viewport to have it point straight down.
The light is added, and the default lights are overridden.
-
Move the light into the desired position.
-
Render the scene (Figure 13).
Figure 13 Illuminating a scene from the top yields stark lighting.
Since the light is pointing straight down into the scene, it illuminates a perfectly circular area.
