Concluding Thoughts on B2Bi Patterns

Often the first step to a successful B2Bi project is gaining an understanding of the solution model. Each of the solution patterns covered is valid and has merit, provided they are applied in the right context. Direct Application B2Bi is best used in a tightly coupled relationship between two partners. It becomes a lot more difficult to implement in a broader “net market community” environment. Data Exchange B2Bi is easy to implement and thrives in an net market community but it is becoming apparent that managing document exchange alone is insufficient. The B2B Process Integration represents the next step in the B2Bi continuum. In this model, the emphasis is not simply on data but rather on managing the protocol of business transaction. Undoubtedly other patterns will arise as B2Bi evolves from fledgling initiatives to mature solutions.
