Purchase an Issue
If you want to purchase the current issue, tap the Buy Issue button that appears in Figure 6. The price for the issue appears in the button. After you tap the button, the purchase screen appears that shows the credit or debit card you'll use to purchase the issue or prompts you to add a card number. Tap the I Agree to the Payments for Google Play Terms of Service check box. Finally, tap the Accept & Buy button to purchase the issue and download it to the Play Magazine app so you can start reading it.
You can also subscribe to the magazine so the Play Store downloads the latest issue of the magazine to the Play Magazine app when it's available. After you tap the Subscribe button shown in Figure 6, the Choose Subscription window appears so you can pay for your subscription monthly (which is the default selection) or yearly.
Once you select your subscription option, another window appears that asks if you want to receive information about additional product services from the publisher and allow third parties to send you information about additional products and services. The check boxes for both these options are checked by default, so if you want to deselect one or both of them, tap the appropriate check box(es) and then tap Continue.
The window will also ask you to confirm your first and last name and type in any changes in the keyboard. Tap Next in the keyboard when you finish typing in your first name or keep the first name as is. Make any changes to your last name and then tap Next.
Tap your street address in the Street Address area. As you type, address suggestions appear in the drop-down list underneath the area. You can narrow down options in the list further by typing a comma and then the name of the city or town; for example, "123 Main Street, Anytown" (without the quotes). When you find your address, tap it in the list, and the Google Play Store adds your city, state, and ZIP code information into the window automatically.
Tap Continue in the window to open the payment window. The window shows the debit or credit card with which you will pay for the magazine, or prompts to add one if you haven't already. Information about your subscription appears in the Terms and Conditions area. Tap the I Agree to the Payments for Google Play Terms of Service check box. Pay for your subscription by tapping the Accept & Subscribe button.
The Play Magazine app downloads the magazine, and a new window appears that informs you the magazine has been downloaded to your library. You can read the issue by tapping the Read button or continue shopping for magazines in the Play Store by tapping the Keep Shopping button. If you decide to keep shopping, you'll return to the magazine's Description screen and you can read the issue by tapping the Read button. You'll learn how to read a magazine in the Play Magazine app later in this article.
View and Change Settings
Within the Play Magazine app, you can also tap the Menu icon in the upper-right corner of the screen so you can view and manage your magazine subscriptions, refresh the list of magazines on the screen, get online help for the application, and change the app settings by tapping the Settings option in the menu. After you tap the Settings option, the Settings screen appears as shown in Figure 7.
Figure 7 By default, only the Download Over Wi-Fi Only option check box is checked.
By default, the Play Magazine app will ask you if you want to download purchased magazines (either individual or as part of a subscription) to your Tab 2. You can turn this feature off by tapping the Automatically Download options so the app will automatically download the magazines to the app.
Tap the Show Notifications check box if you want the Notification bar (or the Status bar if you have Android 4.1x or 4.2x, or Jelly Bean) to inform you when you have a new issue available or downloaded.
