A Complete Deployment Image

Windows 2000 deployment expert Jeffrey Ferris shows you how to combine a computer-naming script with NETSET.EXE and a network configuration script to completely deploy a Windows 2000 Professional workstation using a disk-imaging utility and SYSPREP.
By now you've got your standard install image, you've modified COMPNAME.VBS to conform to your organization's naming standard, and you've written a version of JOINDOM.INF that configures workstations to use your standard network configuration (see the first three articles, “Deploying Windows 2000 Professional,” “Scripting the Computer Name,” and “Configuring Network Settings with a SYSPREP Image”). Now it's time to put all three together into a fully automated process.
What You'll Need
You'll need these components for this process:
-
Windows 2000 Professional
-
SYSPREP v1.1, (downloadable from http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWS2000/downloads/deployment/sysprep/default.asp)
-
Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit
- DeployPak.zip (download here). The files in DeployPak.zip are described later in this article.
