Viewing Personal Information on a Profile Page
The mobile version of Facebook’s Timelinedubbed the Mobile Timelineis now available whenever you view any of your friends’ Profile pages on your iPhone. Let’s take a look at what you’ll see.
The first thing you see when you access a friend’s Profile page is what Facebook calls cover art, but is just an optional banner graphic that your friends can utilize if they wish (see Figure 2). If they don’t add a cover image, you see a shaded background instead.

Your friend’s profile picture is embedded into the cover image. You can view the photo full-screen by tapping it.
Just beneath the initial image(s) are two big buttons: Friends and Subscribed. Tap the Friends button to label this person as a close friend or acquaintance, or to add this person to one of your personal friends lists, as shown in Figure 3. (You’ll see more updates from this person in your news feed if you label him as a close friend.)

Tap the Subscribed button to determine how many and what kind of updates you want to see from this person. In terms of frequency, you can opt to view all updates, most updates, or only important updates. You can then opt to view or not view the following types of updates (see Figure 4):
- Life Events
- Status Updates
- Photos
- Games
- Comments and Likes
- Music and Videos
- Other Activity

Check each type of update you want to see, and uncheck those you don’t. You can also opt not to receive any updates by unsubscribing from this person’s feed; just click the Unsubscribe button.
Next up is key information about this person: where he works, where he went to school, and where he lives. Certain companies and schools are clickable; click through to view that entity’s Facebook page.
Beneath these informational bullets are a series of tiles. You’ll see the first three tiles by default; scroll the list to the left to view the rest.
These tiles are links to other pieces of information about this person. In particular, you can click to view the following (see Figure 5):
- About. Detailed personal information about this person.
- Photos. All the digital pictures this person has uploaded to Facebook.
- Friends. This person’s complete list of Facebook friends.
- Map. An interactive map that pinpoints where this person lives and where he experienced key life events.
- Likes. Those pages, people, and companies your friend has “liked” on Facebook.
- Subscriptions. A list of other people this person has subscribed to on Facebook.

Beneath these scrolling tiles are two more buttons. Click the Write Post button to leave a message on this person’s Profile page, or click the Share Photo button to upload and share a picture with this person.
