- How the Amazon Kindle Fire Compares to the Apple iPad 2
- Amazon's Kindle Fire Tablet is the Perfect "Starter" Tablet
When Apple first introduced the original iPad, the company become the world's leader in the tablet marketplace. It then reasserted its dominance with the release of the iPad 2. There are many reasons why Apple's tablets have become so popular, including:
- iPads use the proprietary iOS operating system, which is powerful and feature-packed.
- iPads feature a 9.7-inch touch screen.
- The iPad 2 has many useful features, like a front and rear-facing camera, as well as a microphone and speaker, plus Bluetooth capabilities built into the device.
- The iPads are compatible with Apple's iPhones.
- The iPads come with a selection of apps pre installed, allowing the tablet to be used for a wide range of tasks right out of the box.
- Currently there are more than 500,000 apps compatible with the iPads, including a wide range of apps specifically created for Apple's tablets. These include Pages, Numbers and Keynote, which are powerful, work-related apps for word processing, spreadsheet management and for creating and viewing digital slide presentations.
- Content for the iPad, including music, TV show episodes, movies, music videos, audio books, eBooks, digital newspapers, digital magazines, and apps, are all available directly from Apple via apps that fully integrate with the iTunes Store, iBookstore, Newsstand and App Store.
- Data between the iPad and a computer can easily be synced, plus files can be transferred using a variety of methods (including iCloud).
- iPads can access the Internet via a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless network, or a 3G Internet connection, depending on the model purchased.
- iPads widely available, being sold directly through Apple Stores, Apple.com, consumer electronics superstores (such as Best Buy), and mass-market retailers (including Wal-Mart) nationwide. For an additional fee, they can also be supported by AppleCare, which is Apple's superior technical support service.
The main drawback to the Apple iPad is itsrelatively high price, which ranges from $499.00 to $829.00 depending on the system configuration selected. Plus, a monthly fee applies for 3G Internet access.
While numerous well-known computer and consumer electronics companies have introduced tablets in hopes of competing head-on with Apple, until recently none have offered the right combination of features to capture the attention of consumers. In fact, some companies have failed miserably in their attempts to create and sell tablets. That is, until Amazon announced its Kindle Fire tablet.
