To stream purchased video content from your iOS device to your Apple TV, launch the Videos app. Select the TV show, music video, or movie you want to watch. As soon as the video content begins playing on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap anywhere on the screen to reveal the onscreen command icons. To the right of the Fast Forward icon (near the bottom-center of the screen) will be the AirPlay icon. Tap it.
Once again, when the AirPlay popup window appears, select the Apple TV option. Within a few seconds, the video will begin playing on your television set. On your iOS device's screen, you'll see a message that says, "AirPlay. This video is playing on Apple TV." Use the iOS device's onscreen command icons or your Apple TV's remote control unit to control the video as it plays.
Using AirPlay in conjunction with your iOS device and Apple TV opens up a whole new way to enjoy your iTunes[nd]purchased content, as well as your own photos and videos.
However, if you have a Keynote presentation stored on your iOS device that you want to present on a television set or monitor to an audience, you'll need to connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 directly to your HD television set or monitor using the optional Apple Digital AV adapter cable. Other optional cables are available for connecting older iPhone models or the original iPad to a television set or monitor using a composite or component cable connection.
