The Excel Web App is arguably the most powerful of Microsoft’s web apps and as such, enjoys the lion’s share of enhancements. Thanks to an unprecedented level of responsiveness to feedback, and the ease of updating cloud apps, Microsoft can focus development efforts on beefing up the most popular features.
Recently, there has been a flurry of announcements about the latest updates to the Excel Web App. So many in fact, that there are too many to cover in a single article. This article, the first in a multi-part series, focuses on the new right-click menus; the ability to insert, delete and rename sheets; the ability to merge selected cells; and the ability to print your workbooks directly from your browser.
Right-Click Menus in Excel Web App
Once you discover the ease of using the right-click menus, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without them. Excel users asked to be able to use right-click menus in the Excel Web App, and Microsoft responded by adding that into a recent update. Now, you can right-click on cells in the Excel Web App to cut, copy, paste and edit hyperlinks. Figure 1 shows the right-click menu in Excel; Figure 2 shows the abbreviated right-click menu in the Excel Web App.
