Improvements to Messaging
Mango offers several major improvements to messaging. One of the most exciting new features is called threads. Mango can grab messages from multiple feedssuch as text messages, IMs, and Facebookand put them all together into a single conversation (thread).
This system provides several advantages:
- You don't have to scroll through screen after screen of messages just to see whether anyone has responded.
- With just a couple of taps, you can switch between texting, Windows Live Messenger, and Facebook chatall from within a single thread.
- With just a tap, you can expand a thread to display all the related messages. A second quick tap collapses the thread back down.
Like the new threaded messaging, Mango also has an optional Conversation View that lets you organize email messages into threads related to a specific project, for example. Once the messages are grouped, you can manage all the messages together; for example, tapping on a collapsed conversation lets you flag, move, delete, or change the read status on all the messages at once. These project-specific message folders can be created and pinned to the Start menu for quick access.
Finally, it's commonplace to manage multiple email addresses, and thus multiple mailboxes. You select which mailboxes you want to keep together, and Mango lets you see the email from all those accounts at once. The databases are kept separate, but onscreen it just looks like one big mailbox. When you reply to a message, the reply is sent from the mailbox that received the original message. Since all of your preferences are maintained, the correct signature block will be inserted, and the message will be stored in the appropriate Sent folder as specified in your settings.
