Don't Display Graphics
Here's a big speed up that may or may not appeal to you. Many web pages are overloaded with photos and other images; these images are big files that can take a long time to download and display, especially if you have a slow web connection. You can speed up the loading graphics-intensive pages by simply turning off the graphics. That leaves you with a text-only web page, of course -- but that page will load a lot faster than it did with all the images intact.
To turn off the display of images in Internet Explorer 9, follow these steps:
- Click the Tools (gear) button and select Internet Options.
- When the Internet Options dialog box appears, select the Advanced tab.
- Scroll down to the Multimedia section and uncheck the Show Pictures option.
- Click OK.
And, while you're at it, you can further speed up web page display by unchecking the Play Animations in Webpages and Play Sounds in Webpages options.
