Connectivity Time
Although ROI, costs, integration, and interoperability issues are important in considering technologies for transmitting information from one enterprise to another, other factors that could impact perceived and expected project success are more of a concern, such as security, standards, and reliability. While all three apply to EAI applications, web services, and wireless technologies, their importance is higher with wireless technologies due to shorter and loosely coupled connectivity time between a wireless client and its associated servers in getting the information (via email). This is in contrast to the longer and more tightly coupled connectivity time that characterizes wireless database queries via EAI and associated web services, given that interoperability, reliability, and security issues have been addressed.
