Creating Your Own Facebook Page
Any official representative of a business or organization can create a Facebook Page for that entity. If you’re a celebrity or public figure, you can create a Page yourself, or have a representative (such as your press agent) do it for you. Because a Page has to be official, competitors can’t hijack your name and create a Page for you; nor can fans create “fan club” pages in your name.
Just as with most things Facebook-related, there’s no charge to create a Facebook Page. The only thing you have to spend is your time.
Creating a Facebook Page is relatively easy. Start by going to http://www.facebook.com/pages/ and then click the Create Page button. When the Create a Page screen appears, select the category for your Page (see Figure 4):
- Local Business or Place (see Figure 5)
- Company, Organization, or Institution
- Brand or Product
- Artist, Band, or Public Figure
- Entertainment
- Cause or Community
Figure 4 Choosing the type of Page to create.
The type of Page you choose to create determines additional options for the Page. Table 1 details the specific options available.

For example, if you’re creating a Page for a local business, you select the category of business (Automotive, Bar, Hotel, Restaurant/Café, and so forth), enter your business name, address, and phone number, check to agree to Facebook’s terms and conditions, then click the Get Started button.
