Understanding CreateSpace Publishing Solutions
Publishing a book isn’t a one-size-fits-all endeavor. Different books have different needs, as do different authors. You may feel comfortable doing some of the interior or cover design yourself, you may need Amazon to provide that expertise. Likewise, you may want to invest in additional editorial services, illustrations, public relations, and promotion for your book. Naturally, the more services you need, the more you’ll pay.
Amazon offers nine basic publishing packages, in addition to a variety extra-charge options. Table 1 details these publishing packages, along with their costs.

You’re not limited to these packages, however. Amazon offers a full menu of editorial, publishing, and marketing services you can add to any individual package. For example, if you want to more aggressively market your book, you can purchase a Publicity Kit for $499 that includes 500 full-color postcards, bookmarks, and business cards to distribute as you see fit. Of if you want more detailed editorial advice, you can purchase an Editorial Evaluation for $299-$499, depending on your word count.
In short, you purchase those services you need—and pay for them accordingly.
