If the buyers lose their In App purchases because they accidentally delete the app or they had to restore the device without a backup, they can usually download some of the purchases again for free. Keep in mind, however, that some In App purchases may not be eligible for free download again.

The following circumstances apply to In App purchases:

  • Replenishable: In App purchases and subscriptions must be repurchased. One-time services such as extra ammo, additional weapons, extra game points, and so on are not redownloadable.
  • Non-replenishable: In App purchases can be downloaded again for free. For example, bonus game levels or subscriptions would be included.

An In App purchase is downloaded again by simply going back into the app and requesting the download again.

The sky's the limit for you to introduce revenue generating In App purchases into your apps. The model of giving away an app for free is perhaps one of the most powerful concepts of the iPhone and iPad.
